What to Expect at Your First Spa Job

Friday, October 8th, 2010

When a customer enters the inner sanctum of a spa, there is a feeling of calmness, peace and serenity.  They are envious of all who work in such a beautiful and serene sanctuary.

It is important to know that this atmosphere is created by a myriad of employees who work hard BEHIND the scene to create this ambiance. The spa/salon spaces are continually cleaned throughout the day, there are mountains of towels to be folded, the music chosen, the candles lit, treatment tables prepared with fresh linens between clients, hair swept up at the styling stations, client cards to be filled out, phones answered, hydrotherapy tubs to be wiped to a high shine, retail shelves to be dusted.

BUT it is not all drudgery!  You will be working with like-minded professionals who enjoy giving great customer service in luxurious and relaxing surroundings.  And, how many other jobs offer immediate rewards such as “you have changed my life today” and “thank you for making me feel better about myself.” Can you think of another career that you are able to receive INSTANT gratification about your work?

And then there are the discounts and treatment ‘trades’ with your co-workers….sigh….yes, a great place to work.

Guest Blogger Kelly Explains The Importance of Corporate Wellness Programs

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Poor health has a direct impact on the overall effectiveness and performance of employees.  Unmanaged health care concerns such as migraine headaches, diabetes, asthma attacks, or other stress related illness can damage overall company productivity when viewed across an employee population.

Corporate wellness programs are designed to contribute to the overall health and wellness of employees and their families by offering products, services and health educations resources which help to reduce stress related injuries and illnesses, and increase overall health.  Overall benefits include reduced absenteeism, increase in employee morale, improved work performance, reduced sick leave, reduced health insurance costs and increased employee loyalty.

In addition to the health benefits to their employees, many companies are taking a broader look at their overall financial health, and seeing a wellness program as an important strategy for alleviating the impact of the enormous increases in health insurance premiums.

Research has shown that Employee Wellness Programs offer a positive Return-on-Investment making them a benefit that costs more to avoid than to provide.  For example:*

  • Preventable illness makes up at least 70 percent of all illness and the associated costs
  • The total cost of obesity to U.S. employers is $13 billion per year.
  • Obese Americans spend about 36 percent more on health services and 77 percent more on medications than people of healthy weight.  That’s more than heavy smokers or heavy drinkers
  • Workplace alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use costs over $100 billion each year
  • Job stress is estimated to cost $200 to $300 billion annually in absenteeism, tardiness, and lost productivity
  • Workers’ compensation costs for a smoker averages $2,189 compared to only $176 for a nonsmoker

This week’s topic – Tanning Alternatives

IS System - Photo Compliments of Infinity Sun

After weeks or should I say months, we are finally seeing sunshine in San Diego. With that be said, people will be rushing to the beach and or pool to start their summer tan. But for those of us who don’t have the time it takes to tan safely this summer, why not try an alternative method. No…I am not suggesting lying in a tanning bed, unfortunately, tanning beds are not the best way to go. If you want to look like you just spent five glorious days at a tropical destination, book an appointment for a spray tan.

Airbrush spray tanning is the fastest, easiest and most affordable way to get that golden sun kissed look we all want for summer. There are a few different methods of spray tanning available, some better than others.

Photo Compliments of Infinity Sun

At Bellus Academy our licensed estheticians use the Infinity Sun spray tanning system. Infinity Sun delivers a one-of-a-kind hand-held technology that combines the two fastest growing industry segments: sunless tanning and high-end skincare. Infinity Sun merges these two, creating a revolutionary, multi-treatment, custom-blending skincare delivery system. This breakthrough technology delivers the appearance of tanned, healthy, radiant skin in less than five minutes that lasts for 7 to 14 days. The system offers three levels of bronzer, which you will notice right away, or a clear solution that delivers the same amount of color within a few hours. Either way, your skin looks healthy and radiant and you feel confident and ready to bare it all…well maybe just a little!
Enjoy being tan all summer long! Purchase an individual treatment for $30 or purchase a discounted series. For additional information or to book your appointment call us at 858-762-0114. Don’t forget to ask about the line of Infinity Sun spray tan retail products that will help extend your tan.

Feel free to ask you tanning questions below and I will get back to you!
